The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized yesterday a webinar titled “Globalization and Unplanned Urban Growth in the Arab City”, as part of a series of seminars entitled "Social Sciences in a Changing World". It was delivered by Dr. Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs, and moderated by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA.

At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim discussed the Egyptian experience in eliminating unplanned urban growth in major cities, particularly in Cairo.

He noted that Cairo was suffering from a major urban congestion, which is one of the reasons for the growth of random urban forms.

He also stressed the need to adopt a strategy for rural development in Egypt, hence the idea of the “Decent Life” initiative to develop villages and provide essential services, most notably in rural areas.
