The BA Center for Strategic Studies is organizing a seminar entitled "One Hundred Years of Egyptian Constitutions: Political and Social Contexts” on Thursday, 2 March 2023; 5:00 pm, at Triumph Hotel, Cairo.
This year marks the hundredth anniversary of the promulgation of the 1923 constitution – the first constitution in modern Egypt – that paved the way for the national rule brought about by a long-standing struggle movement, which enabled Egyptians to determine their destiny away from the external interference of the British occupation forces at that time.
In this respect, the seminar will discuss the most prominent issues addressed by the Egyptian constitutions from 1923 to the present day, including the powers granted to executive and legislative institutions, securing the independence of the judiciary, protecting public rights and freedoms, and empowering certain groups politically in parliament and in the cabinet.
The seminar speakers include Dr. Moustafa El-Feki, former BA Director; Dr. Mufid Shehab, former Minister of Higher Education; Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, President of the Senate; Counselor Amal Ammar, Assistant Minister of Justice for Human Rights, Women and Child Affairs; Dr. Abdel Moneim Said, Member of the Senate; and Dr. Mohamed Kamal, Professor of Political Science at Cairo University.
