Serageldin Invited to the Paris Summit for the Mediterranean

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, received an  invitation from the French President Nicolas Sarkozy to participate in the Paris Summit for  the Mediterranean, 13 July 2008, co-chaired by President Hosni Mubarak and French President Sarkozy. 
During the Summit, Heads of  27 European Union (EU) countries and 17 southern Mediterranean countries will convene at the Grand Palais, to forge a closer solidarity between the EU and the countries of the Mediterranean; to  launch a new Union of the Mediterranean;  and to  adopt a declaration on the enhancement of cooperation between EU member states and countries of the Mediterranean region. Combating pollution of the Mediterranean and developing the use of solar energy will be among the programs of the new Union.
