The Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Planetarium Science Center, in collaboration with the Robot Technology and Gifted Care Association, launched this morning the Egyptian edition of the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Discover and FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Explore competitions for the 2025–2026 season, which runs from 8 to 11 February at the Library's Conference Center.
This year’s season witnesses a wide participation from children and educational institutions interested in robotics education and spreading a culture of innovation. 550 teams are representing 120 schools and educational centers from 16 Egyptian governorates, with a total of 3,100 students aged 4 to 10. Eighty judges will evaluate the students' projects and more than 300 volunteers will organize events and support the participating teams, ensuring that international competition standards are applied.
This year's theme is UNEARTHED™, a global theme that focuses on archaeology and discovering the past to understand the present and build the future. Through this theme, students learn about ancient human civilizations, research and excavation methods, and the tools used by humans throughout the ages, linking these discoveries to modern technology.
The UNEARTHED™ theme aims to develop students' research, investigation, and critical thinking skills, enhance their awareness of the value of human heritage and ways to protect it, and encourage innovation and the use of technology in non-traditional fields. During the educational journey of the competition, students learn the principles of engineering design and teamwork, conduct simplified research on the season's theme, and design and build interactive models using LEGO Models that reflect their ideas and innovative solutions. The competition also instills values of cooperation, creativity, self-confidence, and knowledge sharing in an integrated educational experience that combines learning and pleasure.
The local championship gives outstanding teams the opportunity to represent Egypt in international FIRST LEGO League championships, as well as participate in open championships around the world, enriching students' educational experiences and enhancing Egypt's presence in international scientific forums.
FIRST LEGO League competitions are among the largest international educational programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). They are organized globally under the supervision of the FIRST Foundation and have been held in Egypt for more than 20 years, sponsored by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Robot Technology and Gifted Care Association.
